Safinah has been involved in European Commission studies to look at decommissioning of ships in Europe.

- Safinah worked with two other companies, Det Norske Veritas and Appledore International Ltd., to identify the potential for decommissioning ships in various sites throughout Europe.
- Safinah made a significant contribution to the end of life scenarios for the coatings on board the vessels as well as providing input to all other aspects of the project.
- The outcomes:
- A number of potential sites and scenarios were identified indicating that it would be possible to decommission ships in an environmentally sustainable manner in Europe.
