Dr Roger Vaughan BSc FREng FRSA FRINA

Chairman

Dr Vaughan has had a distinguished career in shipbuilding and related industries as Chairman of Swan Hunter Ltd, Chairman A&P Appledore Int. Ltd, Technical Director British Shipbuilders, as well as being Professor at Newcastle University Business School.

Dr Vaughan has been instrumental in guiding the development and growth of Safinah Ltd from its inception.

Dr Raouf Kattan B.Sc M.Sc C.Eng FRINA

Managing Director

Dr Kattan has extensive expertise in shipping, shipbuilding and naval architecture, with a specialist knowledge of coatings.

He has worked with all the world’s leading coatings companies and headed the product development teams of a multinational company. He has a broad experience in the problems associated with the use of marine coatings and has worked in both industry and academia.

He brings a different dimension to the analysis of coating problems and market demand forecasting.

Mr Carl Penderup Jensen BSc MSc Chemical Engineering, FROSIO

Technical Director

Mr Penderup Jensen has held a variety of technical roles within one of the leading marine and heavy-duty coating manufacturers. As VP Technical he lead product development R&D, technical services and paint performance testing. He was also involved in risk management.

Mr Rodney Towers BA Econ. C.Eng MRINA

Marketing Director

Mr Towers spent 15 years as market development manager of a major marine coatings company and has extensive world wide experience.

He is responsible for marketing all Safinah services and software.

Mr Alexander Kirkwood BSc(Hons)

Director

Mr Kirkwood was on the board of one of the world’s leading heavy duty resin manufacturers with global responsibility for its photocure business based on UV technology.

He also spent 25 years in senior positions with a leading specialist in corrosion technology.

Dr Stephen Brooke Bsc CEng MRINA SenMWeldI

Director

Dr Brooke has a wide experience in a broad range of engineering disciplines and their associated supply chains. He has a particular knowledge of the practicalities in structural fabrication and its linked technologies.

He has worked internationally with both small and multinational organisations in senior positions and is recognised for being able to view both the hands-on in addition to the strategic aspects in problem solving and business improvement.

Dr David Arnold BSc

Technical Consultant

Dr Arnold is a paint chemist who has worked at senior levels in major paint companies. He has specialised in anti-fouling and regulatory matters but is knowledgeable about all paint types and has developed products used in the market today.

Dr Arnold leads on paint failure, speed loss, and cargo contamination work and works with raw material suppliers and paint companies.

Dr Lynda Speed BSc CChem

Technical Consultant

Dr Speed is an industrial chemist with experience in technology development, environmental regulations as well as marketing and market analysis and intellectual property issues.

Dr Speed manages all aspects of technology sourcing, patent and intellectual property, and all Safinah’s research contracts. She provides a technical resource service for small raw materials and paint companies.

Charles Atkinson

Coating Manager

Charles Atkinson has extensive experience of planning and executing coating systems for new build projects, such as multi-roll offshore supply vessels, FPSO, fast offshore patrol vessels (military type) and Mega-yachts. He has developed maintenance planning systems for land based oil & gas installations, jack up rigs, multi-roll vessels, applying specialist knowledge in preparation and application techniques for coatings.

He is FROSIO registered inspector level 3 and specialises in practical aspects of application, specifications and planned maintenance.

Mr John Hinchley BSc (Hons)

Cargo & tank coatings

Over 25 years experience in the leading paint manufacturing company, with a career covering laboratory, fieldwork, technical service, customer support, claim management and ultimately responsibility for world wide business development in the key sectors of:

  • Cargo hold coatings
  • Tank coatings
  • Anti-Fouling coatings

Has a strong practical experience, supported by sound technical knowledge of products and their performance in the field.

Mr Lee Lampard B.Eng C.Eng

Business Development and Naval Systems

Lee Lampard previously worked as a project manager on major naval refits and offshore oil & gas projects. He was the Progressive Upkeep manager for the proposed UK Aircraft Carrier project which included through life responsibility for coatings.

He manages new business opportunities and drives the coating inspector network.

Mrs Rachel Coundon BA(Hons)

Office Manager

Mrs Coundon has 8 years technology management experience. She handles all accounting & organisation details, provides support on marketing initiatives, and speaks French.
