Alan Guy is a paint chemist and coating consultant with a background in industrial and polymer chemistry who has worked at the most senior level in the world’s largest heavy duty paint company. As Worldwide Technical Manager for yacht coatings he visited and worked in a variety of yacht building and repair yards around Europe and USA.
Paul Westcott is a highly experienced Sales, Commercial and Operations Director with extensive business experience over 25 years in the marine, protective and powder coating markets.
His work has covered sales and marketing, manufacturing, technology and research and development in international markets including Europe, Middle East, Russia, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Alan Walker joined the coating industry as a graduate chemist working in research and development. Since then he has had extensive experience in the marine and protective coatings industry in technical, commercial and managerial roles working in the UK, Middle East and Far East. Prior to joining Safinah Alan was the EMEA Marine Director for one of the world's largest coatings companies.
Charles Atkinson is a coating consultant who has extensive experience of planning and executing coating systems for new build projects, such as multi-roll offshore supply vessels, FPSO, fast offshore patrol vessels (military type) and mega yachts.
Dr Till is a coating consultant with over 20 years experience working as an Analyst for a leading international paint company and has expertise in many different analytical techniques, particularly surface analysis, as applied to paint.
Bruno Ravel is a paint chemist and a coating consultant with a background in industrial and polymer chemistry. He has worked in the world's largest heavy duty paint company and his expertise has enabled him to develop and launch new intumescent products successfully into the market.
Dr Nicolson is a vastly experienced chemist and R&D manager with over 18 years experience in the chemical industry, working for one of the world's largest suppliers of marine and heavy duty coatings.
As Section Manager for Global Yacht Finishes, he has a proven track record in delivering new products and technologies to market and as Technical Manager for Business Support has experience of yacht coatings in all sectors.
Doug Gilbert has over 30 years of experience in the marine and protective coatings industry. As Technical Training Manager for one of the largest suppliers of marine and heavy duty coatings, he wrote technical service training programmes which are used worldwide. He has written in-house standards on surface preparation techniques which were adopted by NACE and SSPC and form the basis of current ISO standards.
John Smith has spent over 30 years in the marine and protective coatings industry working for one of the world’s largest suppliers of marine and heavy duty coatings.
For the last 20 years he has worked in Korea as the Technical Operations Director for the major marine coating supplier in Korea. He has worked with all the major shipyards and has supported those ship owners having vessels built there.
As a result he fully understands the needs of modern shipyards and how coatings impact on their performance and output. Part of his role was also to take the lead in the investigation of any failure of coatings on client vessels/facilities.
Dr Vaughan has had a distinguished career in shipbuilding and related industries as Chairman of Swan Hunter Ltd, Chairman A&P Appledore Int. Ltd, Technical Director British Shipbuilders, as well as being Professor at Newcastle University Business School. Dr Vaughan has been instrumental in guiding the development and growth of Safinah Ltd from its inception.
John is a chartered accountant with many years of experience in the profession advising companies, both large and small. He was managing partner of the Leeds office of BDO Binder Hamlyn and a senior partner in Arthur Andersen.
Tor E. Svensen is currently Honorary Professor at the University of Strathclyde and he is also an independent advisor in the maritime industry. Prior to this he was, until 2016, Group Executive Vice President of DNV GL and CEO of DNV GL Maritime, the world's largest classification society. In this role, he was responsible for merging these two large classification societies and establishing the framework for a new strategy, new rules and a new global organisation with 5000 staff and a turnover of over 1 billion Euros.
Maria is currently studying for her PhD and is a research associate working with Safinah, Newcastle University and leading industrial partners on "Mega Yacht Filler Cracking".
Isbelis is currently studying for her PhD and is a research associate working with Safinah, Northumbria University and leading industrial partners on "The Mechanical Characterisation of Coatings on Offshore Windfarm Transition Pieces".
Emmanuel is currently studying for his PhD and is a research associate acting between Safinah, Northumbria University and a consortium of leading industrial companies.
Alan Pratt is a Paint Chemist by training and for the last 20 years has worked in China for one of the world’s largest suppliers of marine and heavy duty coatings.
As Director of Technical Operations in China, Alan set up and established a technical operations department to support the growth of the Chinese shipbuilding, ship repair and ship owning sectors.
Dr Brooke has a wide experience in a broad range of engineering disciplines and their associated supply chains. This comes from 30 years experience in senior operational, technical and board roles in marine, rail and defence sectors.
